Scientists at Work

I have a super fun group of Growing Scientists!
This week we learned about science, different types of scientists, using our 5 senses, asking questions, recording our observations, using science tools, and much more!

Here are some of the highlights:

recording in our science notebooks

All of the students L-O-V-E-D doing this activity.
I gave each student an apple and we used 1 sense at a time to make observations about our apple.

They also enjoyed using science tools.
Scientists- tell your parents how you used:
droppers
beakers
measuring cups
safety googles
microscopes
rulers
and
magnifying glasses

We also went out to our school's special butterfly garden to make observations using our 5 senses. I loved watching my little scientists buzz around the garden with excitement!

On Friday we welcomed Niko's parents who are both scientists. It was so great learning about their jobs. They also taught us about parasites!

The students did a really nice job asking (great!) questions.
Thank you Villegas Family for sharing your love for science!!

We {heart} Pigeon!

My growing artists are feeling great about their growth in drawing and writing.
I am SO proud of them all!

Check out the beautiful Pastel Pigeons they created after reading all of Mo's (awesome!) Pigeon books.

Want to teach your students how to draw Pigeon just like Mo Willems?

What's going on in Writer's Workshop?

I love my job for so many reasons...

This week as I watched my growing artists during Writer's Workshop I couldn't help but feel a little giddy at their excitement for writing!

Looking around I room I saw children...

being inspired by authors and illustrators in mentor texts

drawing characters that we love on dry erase boards

adding details to their drawings

learning how to draw animals in their Drawing and Doodle Book

and practicing drawing on the Smartboard.

I am feeling so inspired by these amazing little writers! :)
